According to MRT media affairs officer Aly Narvaez, this smooth operation of the MRT is the longest no-breakdown record of MRT since 2011, or seven years ago. In fact, it also beat the current record of the 13-day no-breakdown in 2014. She also reiterated that there are now 18 trains running smoothly starting last Thursday, May 10.
Last Tuesday, the DOTr announced that the rehabilitation of the MRT will take 43 months, or more than 3 years, which. will begin once the new rehabilitation and maintenance service provider arrive. This includes 31 months for rehabilitation and maintenance work to restore the MRT-3 to its original design, condition and capacity.
This is after the Duterte government and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed last Friday the final details on the estimated project cost, which will cost around P16.9-billion. It can be recalled that the DOTr terminated BURI's three-year contract last November, citing poor performance in the maintenance of the MRT-3.
“After completing the Appraisal Mission, DOTr and Japan will now move on to signing of the loan agreement and the mobilization of the new maintenance and rehabilitation provider for MRT, which is targeted this June 2018,” the Transportation department said, adding that the project will also cover all the necessities for the passengers.
Meanwhile, Kris Aquino was one of the first to thank President Duterte on the continuous smooth operation of the MRT. “Wow! 22 days walang problema ang MRT! Maraming salamat po Mr. President sa inyong political will! Kahit araw-araw pwde na akong mag-MRT ng bonggang bongga!” The Queen of All Media wrote on Facebook.
