Trillanes Willing to Replace Cayetano as DFA Secretary Anytime

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said he is very much willing to replace Alan Peter Cayetano as secretary of the DFA, if President Rodrigo Duterte will offer him the job. This was his response when asked to comment on the alleged letter of DFA career officers calling for Cayetano’s resignation, along with his aides in the agency.

“Una, di naman siya talaga qualified sa DFA, alam nating lahat yun. Bayad lang niya yun sa kanya nung mama sa Malakanyang kasi malaki ang donasyon nya nung election. Ikalawa, isiniksik lang naman nya ang sarili niya dun sa mama. Kita natin yun nung panahon ng kampanya.” Trillanes said in an ambush interview, Friday, May 4.

(First, he is not really qualified at DFA, we all know it. It is just a payback to him by the man in Malacañang because he donated so much money during the election. Second, he’s just forcing himself to the man. We saw that during the campaign period.)

“Kung tatanggalin siya ni Duterte sa pwesto o magre-resign siya, payag naman ako pumalit sa kanya kahit ngayon din. May mahaba akong karanasan sa pakikipag-usap sa mga taga-ibang bansa lalo na sa China. Kaya yung problema natin sa China, palagay ko naman, makakatulong ako ng malaki.” The Liberal Party (LP) ally senator added.

(If Duterte will fire him or if he will resign, I can replace him even right now. I have long experience talking to other nations especially to China. So with our problems with China, I think I can help a lot [to solve them].)

Trillanes, who is not entitled to run for reelection in 2019, noted that President Duterte has been appointing leftists and some of them failed. He added that if the president really wants to give equal opportunities to people who want to be in the government, it’s now time to appoint someone from the Opposition. “Together, we will make history.” He said.



Meanwhile, the DFA has already denied the supposed letter demanding Cayetano to resign, noting that President Duterte has not read such letter. “It is unfortunate that the Star published unverified information from an anonymous source.” The DFA said, adding that the letter did not come from Union of Foreign Service Officers (UNIFORS).
