Trillanes on Duterte to Ride Jet Ski on Benham Rise,” Pag Nag Jet Ski Siya, Magre-resign ako!”

President Rodrigo Duterte might fulfill his earlier promise to ride a jet ski once he visits the Philippine Rise (Benham Rise) this Tuesday, May 15. This is after at least seven jetskis were spotted aboard the Philippine Navy's BRP Davao del Sur, where the president is set to go on board on his trip to the contested Benham Rise that day.

The photos of the jetskis aboard the said ship were taken by Malacañang Press Corps, as part of preparations for President Duterte’s visit to Benham Rise, along with some local reporters. In the same event, the president is also set to lead commemoration rites of the first year of the official renaming Benham as Philippine Rise back in March 2017.

The said event will also mark the president’s sending off an all Filipino 50-man survey team to Philippine Rise to further assess the country’s sovereignty over the seismically active undersea and volcanic ridge located in the Philippine Sea. Last February, the president ordered the suspension of granting of permits for foreign expeditions to the area.

Meanwhile, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV once more challenged President Duterte. This time, the Liberal Party (LP) ally senator dared the president to ride a jet ski to Benham Rise, saying that he will resign immediately if the president will do it. He said he is very confident that the president will not do it because he is known for breaking his promises.

“Kilala na naman natin si Duterte, na marami nang ipinangako sa taong bayan na hindi niya natupad. Pero lang kasi siya dada. Tapos, pag sinita mo, sasabihin naman nya, joke lang yun. Kaya ngayon, hinahamon ko siya. Pag sumakay siya ng jet ski sa Philippine Rise, magre-resign ako agad agad!” Trillanes said in an ambush interview.

(We all know Duterte, not keeping his promises to the people. He is full of talks. And if you question him, he will just say, he’s joking. So now, I dare him. If he will ride jet ski to Philippine Rise, I will resign immediately!)


It can be recalled that during the third presidential debate for the 2016 elections, Duterte promised to ride the jet ski to the Spratlys archipelago in South China Sea and plant a Philippine flag there. But in a speech before members of the Philippine National Police's SWAT units in March 2017, the president said that he was only joking at that time.
