Cherry Pie Picache Refuses to Play Lead Role at MMK Sereno Life Story Despite Huge Offer

Actress Cherry Pie Picache turned down the offer of ABS-CBN to play the role of former Court (SC) Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno in an episode of MMK (Maalaala Mo Kaya), a weekly drama anthology of the Kapamilya network. This is despite the huge talent fee offered to the award-winning veteran actress.

According to an insider at ABS-CBN who requested anonymity, a producer of MMK contacted Ed Instrella, Picache’s manager on Friday, shortly after the SC granted the quo warranto petition against Sereno via 8-6 votes. On Saturday morning, news that Cherrie Pie refused to play the role immediately spread within the ABS-CBN compound.

“Una pa lang daw, ayaw na agad ng manager ni Cherrie Pie na ialok sa kanyang alaga ang role kasi alam nyang tatangi ito. Pero nagpilit daw yung producer at siya mismo ang tumawag kay Cherrie Pie para kumbinsihin ito. Para makalusot, sinabi na lang ni Cherie Pie sa kanya na busy siya sa ibang project kahit hindi.” The ABS-CBN insider said.

(Since the start, Cherrie Pie’s manager does not want to offer the role to his talent because he knows she will decline. However, the producer was persistent and personally called the actress on her phone and tried to convince he. As an excuse, Cherie Pie told her she is busy with another project even if she’s not.)

Nevertheless, the MMK producer allegedly offered Cherie Pie three times her usually talent fee. But still, the 47-year old actress still refused. As of posting, the said producer is still looking for an actress fit for the role. Sylvia Sanchez, whose teleserye ‘Hanggang Saan’ has just finished also declined, saying that she is currently shooting two movies.



Sereno, 57, is the first woman to be appointed as chief justice and is the first chief justice to be removed via quo warranto. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives is still waiting for the motion for reconsideration that the Sereno camp plans to file before proceeding to the articles of impeachment against the former chief justice.
